The Nottingham Caesars Junior game scheduled for this Sunday 15th April will now NOT go ahead as rivals Tamworth have been unable to field a team.
Tamworth stated a lack of players being available to play in this opening fixture as the reason why.
The surprising news came late on in the week and means that the Nottingham Caesars Juniors have been awarded their first win of the season without having to step on to the field.
Tamworth Phoenix are a team that started out as a junior squad and made the transition into senior football. To not be able to field a team for the first game of the 2012 season came as a shock as the squad was expected to compete for a playoff spot.
However, Tamworth revealed they WILL compete during the remainder of the regular season and so will be ready for when the Caesars travel to play them on July 22nd.
Whilst the Caesars win is welcome players were disappointed at not having a game this Sunday. This news follows the collapse of the Coventry Jets Junior squad and the withdrawal in the off season of the Sheffield Tomahawks. With major organisations now failing to field teams and the Tamworth side apparently starting from scratch this season, the junior playoff race is wide open.
Junior Caesars Coach Walker was anxious that players do not get complacent and attend Wednesday night training this week to begin preparations for the Birmingham game on the 29th April.
"It is vital that we take the positives out of this frustrating turn of events and continue to improve to be ready for the Bulls. We now have 3 more training sessions including tomorrow evening which will enable us to be fully prepared for the game on the 29th. We are 1 - 0 which although hasn't been achieved the way we would have liked does stand us in a good position to go on and challenge for a playoff spot. It is imperative that players STILL attend training tomorrow evening to begin that challenge."
An up to date Junior schedule is available in the Junior section of the website now.
The Junior team continues to improve week by week and should enjoy much success in 2012.
Training for the Juniors will also take place as normal on Sunday, 10am - 1pm.
The senior game between Nottingham Caesars and Coventry Jets will go ahead as planned. Kickoff at 2.30pm.
